Cryobio uses a two prong aproach when it comes to limiting the number of family units per donor. Our family limit is 25 family units per donor. We also have a limit on the maximum number of pregnancies per donor based on geographic location.
Family Limit. Cryobio limits the number of vials sold per donor based on the number of reported family units per donor. In the United States that number is 25. Once we have received birth reports from 25 separate families, vials from that donor will only be made available for sale to those families in the event that they would like to try for siblings.
Geographic Restrictions. A donor may become geographically restricted for sale when his sperm has been used to achieve 10 pregnancies by 10 seperate individuals in one geographical location. Vials from that donor will only be made available for sale to those 10 individuals once that limit is met.
Tracking. So that we can properly track the number of pregnancies per donor, we need you to report pregnancies and births to us. This can be done online using our Report a Pregnancy form.
The results we receive are routinely reviewed for trends that may indicate that a particular donor:
-
- Should be restricted in a given geographic area. This geographic restriction is indicated in donor search and donor purchase.
- Has reached the family limit of 25 family units per donor.
- Has a pregnancy history that suggests a need for follow-up on certain health or genetic disease issues.
